Abstract

This study proposes a close-reading of Garcilaso de la Vega's sonnet, Illustre honor del nombre de Cardona, in the light of the classic motif of the primus ego and in the perspective of the poetic program – already existing in petrarchan poetry – of the solid cooperation of modernity with the classical tradition: tra lo stil de’ moderni e ‘l sermon prisco.
