Oralità e scrittura nell’Irlanda tardolatina: status quaestionis e approfondimenti

Abstract

The arrival of Latin Christianity in Ireland resulted in a reshaping of the indigenous social dynamics which intersected with and was also due to the diffusion of the Latin language, the official language of the western Church. Although Latin never became a linguistic uarietas in Ireland, the scholastic and academic study of that language led to a total upheaval of the ancient oral organization of the Hibernian society which began to use the Latin alphabet to pass on its own culture.
