Abstract

This article discusses the role and importance of the teaching of Latin in the modern educational system, with a particular focus on the grammatical tradition in England. It explores how Latin has influenced intellectual and cultural formation through the centuries, and its relationship with other languages and disciplines, especially English. In particular, an in-depth analysis is devoted to three key figures of English Renaissance: Thomas Linacre, William Lily, and Pierre de la Ramée.
