Il plurilinguismo letterario nelle farse di Giovan Giorgio Alione

Abstract

The Opera jocunda, written by the Piedmontese Giovan Giorgio Alione (1460?-1521?), furnishes a faithful description of the complex cultural situation of the late-XVth and early-16th century northern Italy. This article examines the plurilingual modalities of the farse included in the edition by focusing on three axes: 1. the adaptation of French farces according to Gianfranco Folena’s definition of «vertical» and «horizontal» translation; 2. the natural coexistence of local dialect, French, and a north-Italian form of volgare in Alione’s production; 3. the satirical representations of figures of authority such as Lombard or French invaders as well as members of Justice.
